Alexandria Country Day School was founded in 1983 by a group of visionary educators and committed parents who were dedicated to quality education and interested in providing an environment where children could develop their full potential. In 1991, having grown too large for its original location, ACDS moved into its present facility, the former site of St. Mary’s Academy. The school continued to prosper and grow and was accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) in 1993. In September 2010, the school celebrated the addition of 14,000 square feet of space including a new regulation-sized gymnasium, cafeteria, and dedicated performing arts center. On July 1, 2012, Scott Baytosh became ACDS’s fourth Head of School.
