Communications

Opportunities for communication at ACDS are both flexible and frequent.

  • Back-to-School Night introductions to faculty, curriculum, and individual teachers; opportunities to visit classrooms where teachers and parents can discuss daily schedules, curricular goals, and homework expectations.

  • Regularly scheduled parent-teacher conferences, which include clarification of goals for each child's education as well as teacher Evaluations of each child's progress.

  • Teachers are open to and expect parents to schedule meetings with teacher(s) as soon as possible when questions or concerns arise.

  • The Friday Flier, a weekly newsletter for parents.

  • Regular communication from teachers about activities in the classroom, homework assignments, and schoolwide events.

  • Twice-yearly grade-centered parent coffees with the Head of School and others about subjects of interest to parents.

  • A voice-mail system to speed teacher-parent communication.

  • E-mail addresses for every administrator and teacher.

  • The Head of School actively solicits and responds to parent ideas and comments in person, by phone, or by e-mail.

  • A faculty recruiting brochure updated annually to reflect current statistics at the school and which is sent out to prospective faculty candidates.

  • The ABCs of Kindergarten, a publication aimed at new kindgarten families designed to inform them about what to expect in their new school.

  • Changes, our student literary magazine.

  • The Leaflet, our newsletter, is published between four and six times a year. It is of general interest to current families, alumni, alumni families, grandparents, and friends of the school.

  • The Annual Report contains information on annual giving, capital giving and gala donations

  • The Oracle is the school's yearbook.

  • Our website, www.acdsnet.org, which provides up-to-the-minute news and information about all operations and activities at the school.
