Go, Bobcats!

ACDS provides the opportunity for healthy competition through our interscholastic athletic program open to all fourth through eighth grade students. Our no-cut policy promotes physical fitness through participation, and student-athletes gain experience in leadership and sportsmanship. Students in grades five through eight have the opportunity to participate in soccer, cross country, basketball, swimming, tennis and track & field. Cross country, swimming, and tennis are also open to fourth graders.  Our teams are both inclusive and competitive, and our top (Varsity) teams have won multiple ABC League Championships in Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, and Co-ed Soccer.  ACDS athletes have also won multiple individual and relay events at Track & Field and Swim meets.

ACDS is a member of the ABC League. Other members of the league are: Browne Academy, Burgundy Farm Country Day School, Gesher Jewish Day School, Edlin School, Capitol Hill Day School, Green Hedges, and Merritt Academy.  ACDS teams also compete against schools not in the ABC league.

Soccer

In the fall, ACDS fields two co-ed soccer teams for interscholastic competition.  All students in grades 5-8 who wish to participate are placed on either the Varsity or JV team; there are no cuts.  Students who already play soccer at a high level are team leaders and offer positive support newer players.  Both the Varsity and JV squads are competitive in their play against other schools.  The Varsity team consistently makes it to the League Championship game each year and won the League Championship in 2022.

Cross Country

In the fall, students in grades 4-8 participate on either the Varsity or JV cross country team.  The faster runners are placed the Varsity team, but all students make one of the two teams.  Both teams practice regularly and the Varsity runners participate in interscholastic meets.  An in-house meet is held at the end of the season for the JV runners who have spent the season working on improving their times.  Many of our JV runners post their best time of the season at this meet.

Basketball

In the winter, ACDS fields anywhere from 4 to 6 basketball teams depending on the number of students interested in participating and all teams compete against other schools throughout the season.  The Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls teams have the opportunity to participate in the league playoffs and both squads have won the League Championship in recent years.

Home basketball games for all teams are well-attended by students in all grades, K-8, and the Student Council runs a snack bar where attendees can purchase refreshments.

Swimming

In the winter, swim team members head to Chinquapin Pool for practices.  Any student in 4th – 8th grade may participate in these practices and students who are strong enough swimmers to compete do so interscholastically.

Tennis

Open to students in grades 4-8, Tennis is a popular spring sport.  Students are divided into practice groups based on ability and those who can serve and rally compete interscholastically.

Track & Field

Open to students in 5th-8th grade, the ACDS Track & Field team first competed in the spring of 2022.  Although a new program for ACDS, our athletes have performed well across all of the events in interscholastic meets.  In addition to running events, students compete in field events such as shot put, discus, and long jump.
